The Phoenix Coyotes reached out to the community in a big way on Tuesday as players, coaches and management took to the covered ice at Arena, handing out envelopes totaling more than $190,000 at the 11th Annual Coyotes Charities Face-Off Luncheon presented by Gila River Casinos. At the receiving end of these envelopes were various organizations throughout Arizona’s communities that share Coyotes Charities’ mission of enhancing the quality of life through the promotion of health care, education, cultural arts and sports-related programs for children.

These 2007-08 grant recipients highlighted the Face-Off Luncheon, which also celebrates the start of another year of hockey in the Valley as the Coyotes get ready to drop the puck on the upcoming

season. Attendees shared tables with Coyotes players, coaches, announcers and alumni as Managing Partner and Head Coach Wayne Gretzky, General Manager Don Maloney and Coyotes Charities Chairman John Breslow discussed the upcoming hockey season and the team’s commitment to charity and community.

Emceeing the event were Coyotes / FSN Arizona Television Broadcasters Dave Strader and Darren Pang, who in addition to entertaining the crowd, also found their way into a raffle prize as a lucky winner received the chance to dine with the duo. That was only one of the many great raffle and silent auction items attendees had the opportunity to bid on as other items included a road trip with the team, seats on the glass to Opening Night and a 2007-08 team autographed jersey.

All monies raised at the luncheon went back to Coyotes Charities, which will continue its mission of being “Champions for Children” throughout the year and leading up to next season’s 12th Annual Face-Off Luncheon.
