– The Phoenix Coyotes announced today that the team will hold a contest to give one local adult-league ice hockey player the opportunity to win the final spot in this year’s Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp, which will be held at Jobing.com Arena and the Alltel Ice Den in Scottsdale from Wednesday, Feb. 25 to Monday, Mar. 2.
The Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp, now in its seventh year, gives participants the once-in-a-lifetime chance to skate alongside hockey legend and Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky while competing for the Gretzky Cup. Campers receive an authentic NHL experience, including coaching from NHL greats such as Larry Robinson, Marty McSorley and a host of others, as well as deluxe hotel accommodations and much more.
To earn the final spot in this year’s Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp, contestants will be timed as they race through an on-ice obstacle course that tests a player’s skating and stick-handling abilities. To be eligible for the contest, individuals must be a registered member of an adult ice hockey league at Polar Ice Peoria, Polar Ice Chandler, Polar Ice Gilbert, Alltel Ice Den, Oceanside Ice Arena or Arcadia Ice Arena, and must be at least 21 years of age.

The qualifying event will be held at Jobing.com Arena on Sunday, Feb. 8 from 2-6 p.m. The top qualifier (fastest time in the obstacle course) from each participating rink will then compete in the final round during intermission of the Coyotes’ home game on Monday, Feb. 16 against the Edmonton Oilers.
The player with the fastest time among the six qualifiers during the final round on Feb. 16 will win the contest and attend the Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp.
In addition to being a registered adult hockey league member at one of the aforementioned rinks, eligible contestants must also be available to attend the qualifying event of Feb. 8 and the final event on Feb. 16. Each contestant must also be available to attend the Fantasy Camp in its entirety (Feb. 25 to Mar. 2, 2009). Participants will also be required to sign a liability waiver and a release of photo waiver.
