As the Phoenix Coyotes prepare for the upcoming 2007 NHL Entry Draft, PhoenixCoyotes.com will begin daily ‘scouting reports,’ looking at a three potential draftees in a new feature titled: “Coyotes Draft Preview.”


In this installment of “Coyotes Draft Preview”, PhoenixCoyotes.com takes a closer look at three of the top four North American Goaltenders, as compiled by Central Scouting’s Final Rankings.

JEREMY SMITH
Central Scouting Highlight Video: 300K / 700K
League: Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Team: Plymouth Whalers
D.O.B: April 13, 1989
Height: 5’ 11.5”
Weight: 160 lbs.
Catches: Left
Ranked: 1st among North American Goaltenders

Notes: During the 2006-07 season, Smith posted a 23-6-0-1 record with a 2.59 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and four shutouts.  A native of Dearborn, Michigan, Smith was selected to the U.S Under-18 at the 2006 World Championships, where he started all four games and led Team USA to a 2nd place finish.  Received USA Hockey’s 2007 Dave Peterson Award (Goalie of the Year).

TREVOR CANN
Central Scouting Highlight Video: 300K / 700K
League: Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Team: Peterborough Petes
D.O.B: March 30, 1989
Height: 5’ 11”
Weight: 199 lbs.
Catches: Left
Ranked: 2nd among North American Goaltenders

Notes: Last season, Cann compiled a 23-32-1-4 record, 3.69 goals-against average and 9.09 save percentage with the Peterborough Petes.  Was also a member of Team Canada’s Under-17 team at the 2006 Hockey Championships.  A native of Oakville, Ontario, Cann also played in the CHL Canada-Russia Challenge, the CHL Top Prospects Game and the OHL 2007 All-Star Game.  Ranked #1 in Central Scouting’s Mid-Term Rankings.

LINDEN ROWAT
Central Scouting Highlight Video: 300K / 700K
League: Western Hockey League (WHL)
Team: Regina Pats
D.O.B: June 27, 1989
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 177 lbs.
Catches: Left
Ranked: 4th among North American Goaltenders

Notes: In 52 games with Regina last season, Rowat posted a 25-18-1-6 record, including a 2.87 goals-against average, a .897 save percentage and four shutouts.  In the Pats’ postseason run, Rowat went 4-4-2 with one shutout.  A native of Cochrane, Alberta, Rowat was selected to play for Team Red in this year’s CHL Top Prospect’s Game.
