The Phoenix Coyotes carried a truck full of street hockey equipment into Sanderson Ford on Friday, July 20 as the Coyotes assisted XTRA Sports 910 with a common goal – helping children in the community.
The 6th annual Balls of Summer charity sporting goods drive collected new and gently used sporting equipment for donation to the Valley of the Sun YMCA’s youth athletic programs. Answering the call to action was an easy choice for the Coyotes, who joined XTRA’s afternoon hosts Jeff Dean, Bruce Jacobs and Vince Marotta with boxes of street hockey sticks, balls, pads, helmets and even a few nets.
“Helping the community is something we love to do and children are always close to our hearts,” said Phoenix Coyotes Manager of Hockey Development Scott Storkan. “We know this equipment will find its way into the hands of deserving children and help them to stay active, healthy and safe through the game of hockey.”
The equipment was donated through the Street Coyotes program, which allows thousands of kids to learn the basic rules and fundamentals of hockey at no cost in a safe and structured environment through Valley Boys and Girls Clubs.
