Coyotes at IIHF World Championship: Semifinals

by Staff Writer / Arizona Coyotes

Canada 4, USA 3

Defenseman Ryan Ellis scored the decisive goal 1:34 into the third period to lead Canada to a narrow victory in the semifinals.

Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy played 14:03 for USA. His ice time would have been higher but he was called for 12 penalty minutes, including a 10-minute misconduct penalty in the second period.

Coyotes forward Max Domi played 6:02 for Canada, which now has a chance to win a second straight gold medal at this tournament.

Canada will play Finland in the gold medal game on Sunday after the USA plays host Russia in the bronze medal game. Having won bronze last year, the Americans hope to win consecutive medals for the first time since 1949 and 1950.

Finland beat Russia, 3-1, in the other semifinal.
