The USA scored three goals in just over five minutes during the second period, and goalie Mike Condon stopped all 19 shots he faced in a preliminary-round game.

Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy played 15:58 and scored a goal for USA. Murphy has notched two goals in four games for the Americans, who next play Hungary on Friday.

Canada 5, Germany 2

Canada blew a 2-0 lead but scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat Germany in a preliminary-round game.

Coyotes forward Tobias Rieder played 8:09 for Germany and took three shots on goal, but he did not play in the third period after colliding with Canada's Corey Perry in the second period.

Coyotes forward Max Domi played 8:27 for Canada and took one shot on goal.
