Coyotes Announce All-Time Starting Six Roster

GLENDALE, ARIZONA ---As part of the 20th Anniversary celebration of the franchise, the Arizona Coyotes announced tonight the team's All-Time Starting Six roster. Shane Doan, Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk were selected as forwards while Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Teppo Numminen were chosen as defensemen. Mike Smith was named as the goaltender. Players were selected by the fans who voted on ArizonaCoyotes.com for their three favorite forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender from the past 20 years.

• Doan is currently in his 21st season with the franchise and is the longest tenured captain in the NHL (13th season). The 40-year-old winger ranks first in franchise history in games played (1,522), goals (401), assists (563), points (964), power-play goals (127) and game-winning goals (69). He is one of only five players in NHL history to hold all of their franchise records. Doan is currently 16th on the NHL's all-time games played list and is now fourth in League history in games played with one franchise. The Halkirk, Alberta native is a two-time NHL All-Star and was the recipient of the NHL's King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2009-10 and the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2011-12.

• Roenick spent six seasons with the Coyotes, recording 152-227-379. He led the Coyotes in scoring for three consecutive seasons (1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01). The Boston, Massachusetts native collected 513-703-1,216 in 1,363 career NHL games. Roenick participated in nine NHL All-Star Games and represented Team USA at two Winter Olympics (1998 and 2002). He was the third American born player to score 500 goals in the NHL and is one of only nine US players to reach 1,000 points. He was inducted in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.

• Tkachuk registered 323-300-623 and 1,508 penalty minutes (PIM) in 640 games over 10 seasons with the franchise. He led the Coyotes in scoring during four seasons (1993-94, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98) and served as the team's captain from 1993-95 and 1996-01. Tkachuk ranks first in franchise history in PIM (1,508), third in goals (323) and power-play goals (114) as well as second in game-winning goals (40) and hat tricks (9). The Melrose, Massachusetts native totaled 538-527-1,065 in 1,201 career NHL games, participated in five NHL All-Star Games and represented Team USA at four Winter Olympics (1992, 1998, 2002, 2006). He is one of just five American-born players to score 500 goals and was the sixth American player to reach 1,000 points. Tkachuk was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.

• Ekman-Larsson is in his seventh season and has totaled 86-156-242 in 471 career games with Arizona. The 25-year-old defenseman registered 20-plus goals in back-to-back seasons (2014-15 & 2015-16) and led the Coyotes in scoring in consecutive seasons (21-34-55 in 2015-16 and 23-20-43 in 2014-15). Ekman-Larsson ranks tied for third in franchise history in career goals by a defenseman (86). Additionally, he has scored the second-most power-play goals (37) among NHL defensemen since the start of the 2013-14 season. His 39 career PPGs place him tied for second on the team's career defensemen PPGs list. The Karlskrona, Sweden native was an NHL All-Star in 2014-15.

• Numminen served as the Coyotes' captain during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 campaigns. The Tampere, Finland native ranks as the franchise's all-time leader in games (1,098), goals (108), assists (426) and points (534) among defensemen. Numminen totaled 117-520-637 in 1,372 career NHL games and participated in three NHL All-Star Games and was a four-time Olympian. His 1,372 career NHL games are the most ever by a European-trained NHL player.

• Smith arrived in Arizona in 2011-12 and guided the Coyotes to the Pacific Division title and an appearance in the Western Conference Final. The veteran goaltender recorded a 1.99 goals against average (GAA), .944 save percentage (SV%) and three shutouts in 16 postseason starts. Earlier that season, Smith was named the NHL's First Star of the Month for February when he posted a franchise-record 11-0-0 mark in the month. The Kingston, Ontario native is now first in franchise history in saves (8,242), tied for first in shutouts (21), second in games (294) and fourth in wins (124). Smith, who participated in the 2017 NHL All-Star Game, owns a 2.67 GAA and a .916 SV% in 294 career games with the Coyotes.
