BRYZGALOV PERFECT AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER

Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov made 20 saves on Friday and posted his first career IIHF World Championship shutout as Russia defeated Germany 5-0 in a Preliminary Round game in Switzerland. Coyotes defenseman Dmitri Kalinin also played for Russia.


Canada opened its Preliminary Round schedule with a 6-1 victory over Belarus. Captain Shane Doan notched an assist and had four shots on goal. Coyotes forwards Scottie Upshall and Matthew Lombardi each recorded three shots on goal but did not score.

Coyotes goalie Al Montoya (USA) and forward Mikkel Boedker (Denmark) also are at the tournament. Their teams begin play on Saturday.
