BOEDKER, MONTOYA CHIP IN AT IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
/ Arizona Coyotes
Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker scored his first goal of the IIHF World Championship on Friday in Denmark’s 3-1 victory over Germany in Switzerland. It was the first victory of the tournament for Denmark, which was placed in the relegation round after going winless in preliminary action.
Boedker opened the scoring for Denmark in the first period off a two-on-one break. Boedker played nearly 20 minutes in the game, good for second in ice-time among forwards, and was a +2.
Meanwhile, Coyotes goalie Al Montoya received his first start of the tournament for the United States and made 14 saves on 16 shots in a 6-2 victory over France. The U.S. is 3-1 in the tournament with its only loss coming to Sweden in overtime. Montoya played in five games with the Coyotes at the end of the season and posted a 3-1-0 record.
