Winter Classic Special of Caps Red Line to Debut on Jan. 13 on Monumental Network

ARLINGTON, Va. – A special Winter Classic episode of the four-time Emmy award winning series Caps Red Line (CRL) presented by GEICO will debut on Monumental Network ( on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 3 p.m.

Hosted by Capitals alumnus and Comcast SportsNet analyst Alan May, the episode features several segments surrounding the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic between the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks, held Jan. 1, 2015, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Segments include:

Troy Brouwer Remembers:

Capitals forward Troy Brouwer reflects on his experience playing in a second Winter Classic, having his family in town to watch the game and scoring the game winning goal in a special sit down interview.

Inside the Caps Family Skate:

Players including Karl Alzner, Eric Fehr and Brooks Laich discuss what it meant to them having their loved ones join them for a skate around the Winter Classic rink.

Winterizing Nats Park:

Monumental Network host Hayley Milon explores the winterization of Nationals Park, taking a step-by-step look at how crews transformed the baseball stadium into a hockey rink.

Sights and Sounds:

In Sights and Sounds, the segment explores what it felt like to be at the game through the experience of the ushers, fans, vendors and food stands.

Elliot’s Take:

In the episode Elliot Segal of DC 101’s Elliot in the Morning also details the Caps Tailgate at Nationals Park, exploring the lots, Spectator Plaza and other areas enjoyed by fans throughout the event.

CRL won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Program Achievement for Sports – Programming Series, by the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS-NCCB) in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2014 it received an Emmy in the Sports Program Feature/Segment category.

The Winter Classic episode also will air on WUSA-TV CBS 9 on Saturday, Jan. 17, at noon in Washington, D.C., and on NHL Network on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m.

In addition CRL Extra material and an extended interview with NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly will be released on later this month.
