Washington Game Entertainment Takes Home Two IDEA Awards

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals won two 2009 Golden Matrix awards from the Information Display and Entertainment Association (IDEA) at the association’s 27th annual conference hosted Jan. 22-25. The Capitals game entertainment office, which is led by game entertainment director Scott Brooks and game entertainment coordinator Rachel Becker in conjunction with BASE Productions’ Chuck Roseberry, Tim Libeau and Zach Hollifield, took home Best In-Game Feature for the video “Inked” and Best Show Open for the video “Rock the Red.” The Capitals were also named among the top-three finalists for Best Overall Matrix/Fascia Display.

The Best In-Game Feature and Best Show Open Awards were presented to the top vote-getter in each of IDEA’s seven subdivisions, which include NHL, MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL, universities and minor leagues. The Capitals were named the overall winner amongst the seven finalists by a vote of the association’s general membership.
“Inked” For the Best In-Game Feature, shows several Caps players show off their tattoos and share the stories behind them. The segment uses stylized player photos, interviews and some cool compositing. The fans get a never-before-seen glimpse at some of the Capitals players’ body art. Click here to view the video.
“Rock the Red” For the Best Show Open, shows the Capitals in a new light for the new season. With a sold out arena, a team of exciting young players living like rock stars and with a “Rock the Red” slogan, it was only natural that Capitals games feel like the hottest concert in town. In the video a 1972 Cadillac helps the players arrive in style before 2008 league MVP Alex Ovechkin channels Mick Jagger and leads a band full of his teammates to whip a crowd full of crazy Caps fans into frenzy. IDEA members represent teams, public facilities, manufacturers and suppliers worldwide and encompass all branches of the sports, entertainment and convention industries, including baseball, basketball, football, hockey, racing, soccer, arenas, convention centers, stadiums and universities. All Golden Matrix entries were submitted as they appeared on a daily, or event-to-event, basis throughout the course of the year.
