Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School Wins Caps Pep Rally

Congratulations to Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School in La Plata, Md., the winner of the Washington Capitals Pep Rally contest. Corey Specht submitted a photo to the contest of the entire fourth grade class spelling out “CAPS” on the school grounds. The school will receive a Caps pep rally this Friday, April 18, emceed by Capitals broadcaster Steve Kolbe and featuring the Capitals mascot, Slapshot. The school will also receive a set of NHL-branded street hockey equipment, a team-signed Caps jersey, “Rock the Red” T-Shirts and Caps goody bags.

Local schools from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. submitted photos of their classes and schools showing their Caps spirit in support of the team’s Stanley Cup playoff run. The contest had 25 entries and received more than 32,000 online votes. Mitchell Elementary received an overwhelming 11,107 votes, more than one third of the total votes cast. Thanks to all the schools that submitted photos and all the fans who voted.
