POSTGAME NOTEBOOK: Caps 4, Rangers 2

by Mike Vogel @VogsCaps / washingtoncaps.com

If I Needed You - Wednesday night's game between the Capitals and the Rangers was emotionally charged right from the opening face-off when all three forwards from both sides dropped the gloves and went at it. Three more fights followed in the first five minutes of the game, and Rangers defenseman Brendan Smith incurred an instigator penalty for going after Tom Wilson, who'd drawn the ire of the New York organization in the previous game between the two teams on Monday night.

Oshie's Hat Trick Propels Caps to Emotional Win

In his first game back after the passing of his father, Oshie's hat trick leads Caps to second straight win over Rangers, 4-2

by Mike Vogel @VogsCaps / washingtoncaps.com

The official scoresheet from Wednesday's game between the Caps and the New York Rangers will show that Washington played the game a skater short, with just 17 instead of the full complement of 18. But there was nothing shorthanded about the Caps' effort and determination in this one, especially when it came to T.J. Oshie.

POSTGAME NOTEBOOK: Caps 6, Rangers 3

Playing a player short for the first time in over 17 years, Caps overcome subsequent loss of Ovechkin in win over Rangers, more

by Mike Vogel @VogsCaps / washingtoncaps.com

Edge Of Seventeen - With T.J. Oshie unavailable because of personal/family matters and with Evgeny Kuznetsov (and goaltender Ilya Samosonov) sidelined for disciplinary reasons, the Caps started Monday's game against the Rangers in New York with 11 forwards, one shy of the typical full complement of a dozen. And because defenseman Justin Schultz missed Monday's game with a lower body injury and Washington has no salary cap space of which to speak, the team was unable to add a forward or a defenseman to its roster to mitigate any of those absences.

Adversity came at the Caps hard for most of the day on Monday, but they battled back and ended the night on a high note, with a satisfying and hard won 6-3 victory over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden in New York.

First We Take Manhattan - The Caps are in New York City for their final two road games of the 2020-21 season. They'll take on the Rangers in a pair of contests on Monday and Wednesday night. Both teams come into Monday night's game on the heels of shutout losses at home in their most recent outings. Caps tumble from top spot in East, suffer third shutout in 13 games, McMichael scores League-leading sixth GWG for Hershey, more

by Mike Vogel @VogsCaps / washingtoncaps.com

Six Blade Knife - Two weeks ago today in Boston, the Caps started a six-game span of late season scheduling against the three other likely Stanley Cup playoff entrants from the NHL's East Division. That matinee match in Beantown against the Bruins was followed by a trio of tilts against the New York Islanders and two more against Pittsburgh. Three of the games were played on the road and three were here in D.C.
