More than 2,000 fans at Opening Night at Verizon Center tried to show they had the Power of Red when they attempted to pull hockey sticks out of an enormous block of ice, ala “The Sword in the Stone.” Fans began lining up at 11 a.m. for the chance to participate and win great prizes. In the end there were six people who were successful, and their prizes included a stick signed by Alex Ovechkin, a team-signed jersey and a suite for one lucky fan and 17 of his closest friends. The promotion provided added excitement for the thousands of fans who stopped by to watch the attempts and Rock the Red each time a stick was successfully pulled from the ice. Check out the photo gallery to get a feel for the excitement and see photos of some of the lucky winners.
