Capitals players join Reston Raiders on the ice
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Washington Capitals players Steve Eminger and Matt Pettinger joined a practice with the Reston Raiders on Dec. 20, skating with approximately 60 children at Capitals rink partner SkateQuest Reston, in Reston, Virginia.Pettinger demonstrated forward skating technique to members of the Reston Raiders squirt teams before Eminger showed the proper backwards stride. Each Caps player led a skating drill down the ice, encouraging the young players along the way. The Capitals players also participated in a game of tag, before helping with some shooting drills.
“I’ve worked at hockey schools for more than five years now and I enjoy being able to help teach kids the fundamentals of hockey,” Eminger said. “It’s nice to be able to give back to the community, especially seeing how much the kids enjoy it.”
SkateQuest Reston is an official rink partner of the Washington Capitals. The Capitals work with their rink partners to promote and deliver key programs within the facilities, provide player and coach support for their internal programs and initiatives and spotlight the rink in Capitals’ publications. In turn, the rinks promote the Capitals through ice-level dasher boards and banner signage as well as communicating and endorsing the Caps youth hockey initiatives.
