Washington Capitals statement regarding Russian team claim

“The Washington Capitals are aware of a Russian team’s attempt to enforce a Russian arbitration ruling with respect to the team's claim to Alexander Ovechkin. We have been assured by legal counsel that both the ruling and the attempt to enforce it in the U.S. are without merit. Alex exercised his right to opt out of the Russian contract this past summer and signed with the Capitals. We are confident that the court will uphold Alex’s contractual status and decision. Alex is a Washington Capital and this process will not affect his participation with our club.”

Newport Sports Management statement regarding Moscow Dynamo claim

“We have been notified of the claim that has been made by Moscow Dynamo in relation to the playing rights for Alexander Ovechkin for the 2005-06 season. Alex has entered into a valid and legal National Hockey League contract with the Washington Capitals for this and the next two seasons. Alex is excited to be a part of the Washington Capitals and the National Hockey League and will continue to focus his efforts on helping the Capitals win hockey games.”
