Statement Regarding DirectTV Blackout

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals want everyone to be able to watch every game and get as many highlights as possible on local TV. Comcast SportsNet has been a great partner and has worked extremely hard to ensure all 82 games will be broadcast live, as has been the case the past three years.

Unfortunately it came to our attention after last night's game that DirecTV subscribers in our market were unable to view our season-opening game against Columbus. This is very disheartening for us and it has nothing to do with blackout rules, the Capitals, Comcast SportsNet or the NHL. This is a DirecTV issue.

This game was incorrectly blacked out to DirecTV customers in our market, and a similar error occurred in other NHL markets.

DirecTV regrets the inconvenience, and we have been assured that they are working to resolve the issue.

We have heard you loud and clear and received more than 1,000 emails. As a result we will rebroadcast the game on Comcast SportsNet tonight at 7 p.m.
