ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals Draft Day Party and uniform unveiling on Friday, June 22, at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va., will feature current and former Capitals players, free skating, interactive games, a locker room tour, new merchandise on sale and – the evening’s highlight – a spectacular show to reveal the team’s new red, white and blue uniforms.
Free tickets to the event are “sold out,” but fans can watch the uniform unveiling live on and Comcast SportsNet, which will provide live interviews from Kettler Capitals Iceplex during “Washington Post Live” at 5 p.m. and live coverage of the unveiling during “SportsNite” at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the unveiling SportsTalk 980 will broadcast a one-hour show from Kettler Capitals Iceplex, featuring reaction to the new uniforms and coverage of the NHL Entry Draft as the first round unfolds in Columbus, Ohio.

Comcast SportsNet play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati will emcee the unveiling and participate in a panel discussion during the show on SportsTalk 980. Jill Sorenson from Comcast SportsNet will also be a part of the panel discussion.
Fans at Kettler Capitals Iceplex will be treated to a variety of activities, including:
  • Appearances and autograph sessions with Capitals alumni Mike Gartner and Rod Langway – both Hall of Famers – as well as Yvon Labre and Kelly Miller.
  • Visits and autographs from captain Chris Clark and teammates Ben Clymer, Brent Johnson, Brian Pothier and Jeff Schultz.
  • Free skating on the public rink (fans are encouraged to bring their skates as rentals are limited).
  • Merchandise stands offering the first chance to own new-look Capitals gear.
  • Interactive games both inside Kettler Capitals Iceplex and outside on the parking deck.
  • A tour of the Capitals’ new locker room and training area.
  • Food and beverage stations catered by Arlington restaurants The Front Page and Rock Bottom Brewery.
  • The chance to watch live coverage of the first round of the NHL Entry Draft on giant screens in both rinks and 42-inch plasma televisions on the “Draft Central” mezzanine level.
Gartner’s visit is the first public appearance in Washington, D.C., by the Capitals’ second-leading career scorer since he retired in 1998. He and the other current and former Capitals will sign autographs and/or skate on the public rink after the uniform unveiling.
The new merchandise on sale at Kettler Capitals Iceplex will include a variety of hats, long- and short-sleeved T-shirts and golf shirts – including items specifically designed for children and female fans. The Capitals will also begin accepting pre-orders for the new uniforms. Due to the production time required to create the new Reebok EDGE Uniform System for all 30 NHL teams, none of he new uniforms, league-wide, will be available for purchase until September.
Fans who purchase a uniform directly from the Capitals will receive a Caps travel mug commemorating the unveiling of the new uniforms as a give with purchase, while supplies last. Fans not attending the Draft Day Party and uniform unveiling can find more information on preordering jerseys from the Capitals on beginning on Saturday, June 23.
Doors will open for the event at 5:30 p.m. Fans are asked to be in their seats or in front of one of the many TV screens by 6:30 p.m. with the uniform unveiling beginning at approximately 6:40 p.m.
