Capitals Announce Training Camp Roster
Practices open to the public beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13
 
WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 9, 2005 – Fifty-eight players will take the ice next week at Piney Orchard Ice Arena in Odenton, Md., for the Washington Capitals 2005 Training Camp, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
 
The roster includes 33 forwards, 19 defensemen and six goaltenders and will be divided into three groups for practice during the first week of training camp. Forty-nine of the 58 players have either signed with or been drafted by the Capitals, and 29 of the 58 were either first- or second-round picks in the NHL Entry Draft.
 
The public is welcome to attend practices, free of charge, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 9 a.m. Tuesday’s festivities outside Piney Orchard begin at 7 a.m., with interactive games for fans and a live broadcast by DC101’s “Elliot in the Morning” show.
 
Washington’s eight preseason games begin Sept. 16 in Raleigh, N.C., against the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. The Capitals play three home games in the preseason at the MCI Center: Sept. 21 vs. Buffalo, Sept. 30 vs. Pittsburgh and Oct. 1 vs. Philadelphia. The Friday, Sept. 30 game will be broadcast by Comcast SportsNet, the first time a Capitals preseason game has been televised in the region. Training camp makes a three-day stop in Hershey, Pa., Sept. 25-27, including a Sept. 25 game against Pittsburgh at the Giant Center, home of the Hershey Bears, Washington’s AHL affiliate.
 
The Capitals open the 2005-06 regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 5, against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the MCI Center at 7 p.m.
 
Capitals season-ticket and partial plans for the 2005-06 season are now available. Season-ticket prices were reduced by an average of 11% last summer and will start at as low as $14 per game.
