Fans Invited to Training Camp Opening Day Sept. 13
Fan Fest events to begin prior to practice
WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 8, 2005 – On Tuesday, Sept. 13, the Washington Capitals will open the doors at Piney Orchard Ice Arena in Odenton, Md., for the first day of 2005 training camp. Fans are invited to participate in outdoor activities beginning at 7 a.m. with the first of three groups of players taking the ice for practice at 9 a.m. All on-ice workouts will be open to the public and free of charge.
DC101 morning show host Elliot will broadcast the “Elliot in the Morning” show live from the practice facility from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m.  Fans can participate in hockey skill games in the parking lot of the ice rink beginning at 7 a.m. There will also be an on-ice appearance by DC101’s Flounder with Capitals defenseman Brendan Witt and an enter-to-win private skate with rookie Alexander Ovechkin. The Capitals take the ice for practice at 9 a.m.  .
Washington’s eight preseason games begin Sept. 16 in Raleigh, N.C., against the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. The Capitals play three home games in the preseason at the MCI Center: Sept. 21 vs. Buffalo, Sept. 30 vs. Pittsburgh and Oct. 1 vs. Philadelphia. The Friday, Sept. 30 game will be broadcast by Comcast SportsNet, the first time a Capitals preseason game has been televised in the region.
The Capitals open the 2005-06 regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 5, against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the MCI Center at 7 p.m.
