Olie Kolzig Injured During Practice

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
Washington Capitals goaltender Olie Kolzig injured his knee during practice today, Monday, February 12, 2007. Kolzig, who is on the verge of his eighth career 20-win season, is expected to be sidelined for three weeks of action.

“Olie means a great deal to the club on and off the ice,” vice president and general manager George McPhee said. “Fortunately, this type of injury does not have long term consequences. Brent Johnson has done his job well and is looking forward to starting on a consistent basis.”

Kolzig has appeared in 45 games for Washington this season, posting a 19-19-5 record and 3.06 GAA. Goaltender Brent Johnson will take over for the injured Kolzig in net for the Capitals.

Johnson, who signed a two-year contract extension with the Capitals in mid-January, has seen action in 15 games so far this season, posting a 4-7-3 record and 3.86 GAA.
