Throughout the month of February, Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) will be partnering with the Greater Washington Urban League (League) to promote two vital programs for higher-education affordability: the League's Scholarship Program, open to high school seniors, and its College Sustainability Fund, open to currently-enrolled 4-year college students finding it financially difficult to remain in school.

"We have so many smart, energetic students in this world-class region, but not all have the capacity to reach their full potential due to financial constraints. That is why we are so proud to celebrate this partnership with the GWUL and activate our fans to the important work they do on issues of opportunity. This support will transform the trajectory of so many young people - and it will make our community stronger for the long-term," said Anu Rangappa, Vice President of Social Impact for MSE.
MSE's Social Impact initiative was launched in the fall of 2019 to partner with community non-profits making game-changing, positive contributions across the metropolitan Washington area. Each month, MSE has been rolling out a new community partner for that month and for which all assets from Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the teams, players and our Foundation will be used to highlight their work. This includes storytelling across multiple media - online, in-arena and in published collaterals.
"Our long tenured partnership with MSE has led to the transformation of many lives. Together we have afforded scholarship recipients the opportunity to focus on learning without the distraction of financial struggle. To count not only MSE but sports fans throughout the DMV as supporters of our collective work to advance the education of deserving students will exponentially grow our impact on this region," said George H. Lambert, Jr., President and CEO of GWUL.
League's Scholarship Program: The League and its young professionals' auxiliary, Thursday Network, are committed to awarding education opportunities through scholarships for college-bound students. In conjunction with numerous corporate sponsors, including MSE, GWUL has facilitated the distribution of $2 million to more than 300 young adults in their higher education initiatives. The League will award several scholarships to deserving high school scholars and college students, ranging from $1,000 to $8,000.
College Sustainability Fund: The League's College Sustainability Fund ("CSF") helps ease many of the financial burdens associated with a higher education. Beyond tuition, the fund supports other expenses associated with financial insecurity during college including textbooks, housing and food. Each year, the CSF continues to award more than $25,000 in merit and income-based scholarships to both high school graduates and students currently enrolled in a 4-year college. Student CSF recipients are permanent residents in one of the three jurisdictions GWUL serves, including the District of Columbia, Prince Georges County, MD and Montgomery County, MD.

About the Greater Washington Urban League
The Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL), has guided individuals and families along the road to self-sufficiency over the past 82 years. Since 1938, the League has stood on the frontlines as well as in the trenches serving as a safety net and facilitator of opportunity in Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County and Prince George's County, Maryland. Our mission is to increase the economic, social and political empowerment of historically underserved, diverse populations and to ensure all Americans share equally in the responsibilities and rewards of full citizenship. GWUL manages and administers a broad suite of programs in housing, entrepreneurship, financial empowerment, emergency services and youth development and scholarships. GWUL is one of the oldest community service and civil rights organizations, impacting over five million lives.
