The Washington Capitals hosted the second-annual Hockey ’n Heels on Monday night, Feb 25, at Verizon Center. More than 300 women attended the event, which sold out in only eight days. Geared toward female Caps fans, Hockey ’n Heels gave the ladies a unique opportunity to learn about the sport and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Capitals downtown D.C. arena. Washington head coach Bruce Boudreau, players and Comcast SportsNet on-air personalities Jill Sorenson and Lisa Hillary took part in the program, which was a huge success for the second straight year.
The evening began when participants were escorted to four different stations throughout Verizon Center where they were able to interact with the players and coaches. Boudreau hosted a “Chalk Talk” program, players’ wives interacted in a question-and-answer session and fans were given a tour of the locker room and enlightened about the world of hockey equipment by assistant equipment manager Brian Metzger and former Cap Bryan Watson. The final segment of the evening featured an on-ice demonstration given by assistant coach Dean Evason and Capitals Quintin Laing and Sami Lepisto.
Following the conclusion of the festivities at Verizon Center, the women headed to Clyde’s at Gallery Place to take part in a special cocktail party with players, coaches and MIX 107.3’s Chilli Amar. The after-party featured music and door prizes. Capitals Eric Fehr, Jeff Schultz, Nicklas Backstrom, Tomas Fleischmann, Milan Jurcina, and Brooks Laich were in attendance. Fans attending the event each received a goody bag with Hockey ‘n Heels favors.
