Capitals left wing Matt Pettinger met Caps fans at ESPN Zone Tuesday, April 4, in downtown Washington, D.C. ESPN Zone hosted Caps players once a month from January through April to compete against Capitals fans in the ESPN Zone “NHL Tonight” interactive hockey game.
Ryan and Patrick Giles, Sophie Wright and Claudia Ruello all competed in the challenge. In the first round of play 12-year-old Claudia defeated 9-year-old Sophie and 6-year-old Patrick defeated his 4-year-old brother, Ryan. During the second round Claudia tallied 32 points to beat out Patrick for the chance to play against Matt. In the end it was a tie as both Matt and Claudia scored 13 in the championship game.
Claudia was awarded a team-autographed Caps jersey and ESPN Zone VIP status for a night, while Patrick received a team-signed stick and ESPN Zone prize packs. Ryan and Sophie each received a Matt Pettinger autographed puck and ESPN Zone prize packs.
