Dev Camp Day Three: Connor Hobbs' Blog

I’m 100 percent ready for this three-on-three tournament this afternoon. I’m on Travis Boyd’s team; he picked me in the third round. We’ve got three d-men on our team—me, Keoni Texeira, and Madison Bowey, and we’ve got Shane Gersich and Boyd up front. We’re going to be pretty tough to beat out there.

I was pretty excited to go to the baseball game yesterday, but the rain pushed it back too late. It was good night. I watched some Shark Week and kind of relaxed and recovered for today.

The team-building stuff was awesome this morning. Scott Muscutt came in, and he was really energetic and really fired us up for the afternoon. It went really well. We talked a lot about mindset and attitude. I thought it was really helpful. I know I took a lot away from it, and I think the other guys will too.

I picked up some helpful advice during the on-ice skating and skills session today. There’s a big group of coaches out there, and everyone is helping each other. I got a bunch of tips about walking the blue line and pushing the puck where it needed to go instead of wasting time carrying it. We also spent a lot of time working on footwork, and I took some one-timers at the end. I don’t think my shot is hard enough yet. Lots of lifting this summer will help that out, but I definitely need to get it a lot more accurate.

Some of the things that the coaches ask us to do on the ice are pretty specific, so it’s a lot of stuff to take in but really exciting at the same time. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about hockey at this point in the summer.
