Dev Camp Day Five: Thomas Di Pauli's Blog

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals

Team White came out hot in the scrimmage today, but we had some defensive breakdowns, and that kind of cost us. I think we did a little better in practice than we did today. We weren’t moving the puck as crisply as we wanted to. The second period was a little bit better. We had a couple of chances here and there, but nothing too consistent.

That being said, I had a lot of fun today. The stands were packed today, and it was a great game. I love playing in front of Capitals fans. Hopefully one day it’s in front of a much bigger Capitals crowd.

I’ve been going hard for the past eight weeks—training, skating every day—so I’m going to give my body a little rest now and then get going again in August. I’m excited to see my family. We’ll be meeting up in a couple of days near Cancun for a week. Our whole family hasn’t been together since Thanksgiving, when I played in a tournament against my brother, who plays for Union College. I’m looking forward to fishing with him. We’ll also visit Italy later this month. I think I’ll come back to Notre Dame with some extra confidence. We’ll have a pretty young squad, but I’m ready to take on the challenge with the rest of my senior class to lead us to a national championship.

I had an absolute blast this week. From beginning to end, the camp was really competitive, so it was pretty awesome. I think it made everybody a better player, and I can’t say enough about the whole staff here. They take such great care of all the players who are not even on the team, so it goes to show how committed this organization is to its future.
