Dev Camp Day Five: Connor Hobbs' Blog

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals

Big win for Team Red today to close out camp. I got a little lucky in the last period with a goal on a power play. I just kind of took a clapper off a pass from the half wall. I wasn’t really looking where I was shooting, but it somehow slid in on the ice. That put us up 6-3, and we added an empty netter before taking the Future Caps Cup.

The atmosphere today was awesome. All the fans who came out to watch seemed really into it, and that kind of helped the boys get into it. It got pretty serious there at the end—the boys were scrumming it up a little bit even—so I think the energy was just great. I was super impressed with my teammates. We all played really well and limited our mistakes out there, and it just worked out really well for us.

I’ll be catching a flight home later today, and I’ll get back to training and skating up in Saskatoon right away. I would say that it’s like any other summer, but it’s not. I’m going to have to prepare for an NHL camp, so I’ll be working maybe a little bit harder and a little bit smarter. I’m really excited. I’ve got lots of stuff to take back from practice and in the weight room.

The week was just lots of fun. It was hard work, and it was a good first taste of what it’s like to be a part of an NHL organization. I know all the guys are really excited and had lots of fun. Special thanks to the Caps and to my roomie Nick Lappin—we had lots of fun and he kind of helped me through the week.
