Cruise with John Carlson, Meet the Team Prankster and Moreon This Week’s Capitals Red Line

ARLINGTON, Va. – The eighth episode of Capitals Red Line presented by GEICO, a fast-paced, behind-the-scenes look at the team, airs on Monday, April 5, at 9:30 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet. Capitals defenseman John Carlson discusses his wild rookie season playing for the Capitals and scoring the game-winning goal in the World Junior Championship, while Ask a Cap finds out who is the biggest prankster on the team, in two of the eight segments on this week’s episode.

Capitals defenseman John Carlson has had an amazing rookie season so far. Ride along with him as he drives to Dulles Airport for a road game and discusses his game-winning goal for the United States in the World Junior Championship. In the past two seasons the 20-year-old Carlson has played for the London Knights in the Ontario Junior League (OHL), the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League (AHL), the United States in the World Junior Championship and the Capitals. He has five points (one goal, four assists) and is +11 in 20 games for the Capitals, a rating that ranks fourth among rookies in the NHL.

Something very special that the Capitals do before their games is bring in youth hockey teams to play games on the Verizon Center ice. This is another way for the Capitals to help grow the sport of hockey in the area. Elliot takes viewers behind the scenes with the Caps Youth Hockey crew, which help the kids get ready for their game on the same ice as the Capitals. Watch as the crew tries to contain the excitement of 20-plus six-to-eight year olds anxiously waiting to play on the same ice as their hockey heroes.

You see the Red Rockers at games dancing, giving away prizes and trying to pump up the Verizon Center crowd. Now get a behind-the-scenes look at their photo shoot. GEICO All Access visits with the girls as they are photographed for their calendar.

Take a look at the goaltending position with two experts: Capitals’ goaltending coach Arturs Irbe and Capitals’ goalie Semyon Varlamov. Watch as they discuss the finer points of defending the net from all angles. They will break down different situations and discuss what it is like standing between the pipes.
