Cool Gear for the School Year

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
Washington Capitals defenseman Shaone Morrisonn attended the Jason Taylor Foundation’s Cool Gear for the School Year event at Old Navy in Leesburg, Va., on Sept. 8. The Jason Taylor Foundation treated 50 local boys and girls each to a $300 shopping spree at Old Navy for school clothes. Each child was paired with an athlete or local celebrity who helped the kids shop.

Morrison was in good company as dozens of Taylor’s Redskins teammates participated in the event along with DeShawn Stevenson of the Washington Wizards and Clyde Simms of D.C. United.

Morrisonn was paired with Sasha, a student from Smart Middle School in Virginia. At the start of the shopping experience, Sasha explained to the Caps player that blue was her favorite color. That was all the information Morrisonn needed as he proceeded to fill their shopping bag with as many blue clothes as he could find. By the end of the evening Sasha had several new pairs of jeans, T-shirts, tank tops, sweaters, a button-down shirt and even a dress.

“Even though I’m not a shopper, I had a lot of fun today,” said Morrisonn. “This is a great event, and I enjoyed getting to know Sasha while helping her pick out new school clothes.”
