by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
Hershey Bears forward to make second appearance in World Junior Championship

Washington, D.C. – December 5, 2005 – Washington Capitals prospect Chris Bourque, a forward with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League (AHL), is among the 22 players named to the 2006 U.S. National Junior Team, USA Hockey announced today. The team, comprised of the best American players under the age of 20, will compete in the 2006 World Junior Championship, held Dec. 26, 2005, to Jan. 5, 2006, in British Columbia.

Bourque, 19, was a second-round selection of the Capitals, 33rd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He will be making his second appearance in the World Junior Championship; he made the U.S. team last season but an injury limited him to three games in the tournament (one goal, one assist).

A 5-foot-8, 178-pound native of Boston, Mass., Bourque has 13 points in 16 games for Hershey this season (four goals, nine assists). He is tied for 25th among AHL rookies in scoring despite missing eight games due to injury.

Bourque is the lone professional player on Team USA’s roster, which also features 17 college hockey players, three Canadian Hockey League players and one member of the U.S. Under-18 Team. The U.S. will begin play with exhibitions on Dec. 21 and 23, and will begin tournament action on Monday, Dec. 26, against Norway.
