Defenseman John Carlson recorded career highs in goals (12), assists (43) and points (55) in 2014-15. Carlson’s 55 points marked the 30th time in franchise history that a Washington defenseman reached the 50-point plateau and the most points earned by a defenseman in a season since 2009-10 (Mike Green, 76). Carlson’s 43 assists rank tied for 14th on the Capitals single-season assist by a defenseman list and he becomes the 10th defenseman in franchise history to tally 40 assists in a season. The 6’3”, 215-pound defenseman finished the season ranked tied for second among NHL defensemen in primary assists (24), tied for fourth in assists (43), tied for fifth in points (55) and tied for 11th in goals (12). Carlson also ranked tied for second in the NHL among US-born skaters in assists and ranks first among American defensemen in goals during the last three seasons (28).
