Washington will play its first road game a night later in Toronto, starting the season with a set of back-to-backs, the first of 11 sets of back-to-backs the Caps will face in the season ahead.
Washington will play its 82-game slate over a span of 184 days, and the season will feature a 10-day break for the 2023 NHL All-Star Game in Florida and a "bye week." After the Caps finish up a two-game road trip in Columbus on Jan. 31, they will be idle until they visit Boston for a Saturday matinee match on Feb. 11.
The Capitals' longest homestand of the season is a four-game run in the District from Nov. 5-11 when Washington will entertain Arizona, Edmonton, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay, respectively. The Caps' longest stretch of consecutive road games is a six-game stretch that starts in New Jersey on Nov. 26, the Saturday following Thanksgiving weekend. After facing the Devils in Newark, the Caps will jet west to Vancouver, Seattle, Calgary and Edmonton before finally finishing the trip in Philadelphia on Dec. 7 against the Flyers.
