Caps Partner with Southwest Airlines, Host Annual Hockey is for Everyone Essay Contest

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have teamed up with Southwest Airlines, the Official Airline of the Washington Capitals, to host the fifth annual Hockey is for Everyone Essay Contest beginning today, Jan. 3, 2008. The contest gives students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to take part in the National Hockey League’s “Hockey is for Everyone Month,” a celebration that takes place during February. Since its creation in 2004, thousands of students have participated in the essay contest.
Students are asked to write a 500-word essay that explains “Why diversity is important” and are encouraged to incorporate their personal experiences in their respective essays. Entries may be written on the Capitals’ website, WashingtonCaps.com, faxed to the team at 202-266-2360 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. All essays must be received by Monday, Feb. 18, 2008.
One winner will be selected from each grade and will receive two Southwest Airlines tickets, a team-signed hockey stick and four tickets to the Capitals home game on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The winners will have an exclusive opportunity to watch the teams warm up from the penalty box and will be recognized on the video board.
