Caps Host Hockey School on December 1

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals

On December 1, 2015 the Washington Capitals visited Thomas Johnson Middle School in Lanham, Maryland to host a hockey school. This assembly was a reward for the school since one of their teachers, Mr. Lai, was selected as Everfi Future Goals teacher of the month. The Capitals street hockey team and Slapshot taught the 370 6th-8th grade honor roll students the fundamentals of street hockey such as stick handling, passing and shooting.

“I love using the Everfi program in my classroom since it is very engaging for the students,” said Mr. Lai. “Giving them the opportunity to actually try street hockey was a great experience that everyone enjoyed.” At the conclusion of the assembly a full set of street hockey equipment was donated to the school so that the students can continue to play the sport in their P.E. classes. Students were also given Caps pencils and foam pucks for their participation.

The 2015-2016 season is the ninth year of the Capitals’ Hockey School program and has been a major proponent in introducing local students to the sport of hockey.
