The Washington Capitals, WTEM and the Capital Area Food Bank are teaming up to host a canned food drive at the Caps game Saturday, Oct. 14, against the Atlanta Thrashers. Donations will be accepted at the F Street, 7th Street and Gallery Place Entrances to Verizon Center from the time doors open at 6 p.m. until the 10-minute mark in the first period. The Capitals, WTEM and the Capital Area Food Bank urge all Caps fans to donate at least one can of food to help in the struggle to end hunger in the Washington area.
All donations benefit the Capital Area Food Bank, the largest public nonprofit food and nutrition education resource in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Last year, the Capital Area Food Bank distributed 20 million pounds of food, including six million pounds of fresh produce, to more than 700 partner agencies. The Capital Area Food Bank has served the National Capital region for 26 years.
