Caps Better Halves raise more than $7,000 for Love for Lokomotiv

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
The Caps Better Halves raised $7,092.50 for Love for Lokomotiv by selling silicone remembrance bracelets at the Caps home opener on Oct. 8. Ashley Beagle, Carmen Brouwer, Sarah Chimera, Amelia Falk (Marcus Johansson), Mandy Flemmer (Karl Alzner), Kelley Halpern, Kim Hendricks, Amanda Hudson (Brooks Laich), Monika Hybnerova (Michal Neuvirth), Mackenzie Keeley (Jeff Schultz), Cynthia Lavoie (Roman Hamrlik) and Lindsay MacDonald (Dennis Wideman) all sold bracelets at the community relations table on the main concourse of Verizon Center before the game and during both intermissions on Saturday night. This league-wide fundraising effort headed by NHL players’ wives and girlfriends, will benefit Love for Lokomotiv, a foundation created to help the families of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team that were affected by the tragic plane crash that took place on Sept. 7 in Russia.

There is still a limited supply of the red, silicone remembrance bracelets. They will be sold at the community relations table at section 103/104 of Verizon Center at the Caps game against the Tampa Bay Lightning starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10 (after the Fall Puck Surprise has concluded). Each bracelet will be sold for a donation of $5 (cash only) with all proceeds benefiting the families of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team. The Caps will continue to sell the bracelets at home games until they are sold out.

Wives and girlfriends from all 30 NHL teams are involved in this project. If you are unable to attend a Caps home game to buy a bracelet, you can purchase bracelets at The cost online is $10 for silicone bracelets, $25 for kids’ beaded bracelets and $50 for adult beaded bracelets.
