by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Caps' Better Halves raised $33,950 for Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation through their annual gift basket silent auction held at the Capitals game against the New York Islanders on Saturday, Feb. 21.

The Caps' Better Halves created 24 gift baskets, one for each player and one for the coaching staff, filled with their favorite things. Each basket included an autographed jersey, player-autographed game-used stick and other items hand-picked by the players and their better halves.

Nineteen of the baskets sold for $1,000 or more, with the Ovechkin and Backstrom baskets selling for the most at $3,000 each.

Created in 2013, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation supports the charitable efforts of the Washington Capitals, Mystics and Wizards. MSE Foundation is committed to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and focuses on the following five pillars to maximize its impact and engagement with the community: youth basketball and hockey, education and scholarship, pediatric health and fitness, military and veterans' affairs and hunger and homelessness.
