Capitals to Host Fan Appreciation Week, March 31 - April 5

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals will host Fan Appreciation Week during the final week of the regular season, March 31-April 5, 2008. Full of giveaways, contests and events surrounding the team’s last three regular-season games, which are all at home, the celebration thanks Caps fans for their support throughout the season. Washington’s final regular-season home game on Saturday, April 5, against Florida, highlights the week-long festivities.

Fan Appreciation Week begins on Monday, March 31, with the first of six days full of giveaways. Capitals prizes including autographed items, will be given away every hour on the team’s website, The online raffle will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day Monday through Friday, April 4. Season-ticket holders automatically will be entered to win, while all other fans will need to register at The Capitals will select winners at random and announce their names online at the top of every hour. At 2 p.m. each day one lucky fan will win a jersey that will be worn by a Caps player during the team’s final regular-season game on Saturday, April 5.

On Tuesday, April 1, the Capitals host the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. at Verizon Center. Lucky Caps fans attending the game will be chosen at random to have their seats upgraded to get closer to the action (based on seat availability). The Capitals take on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, April 3, at Verizon Center and special spirit stations will be set up throughout the concourse for fans to make their own signs. Another group of lucky fans in attendance will also be upgraded to sit closer to the ice. Slapshot will be making his way throughout downtown D.C. during the week thanking fans at various Metro stations and other D.C. locations.

The week-long celebration comes to a close with Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, April 5, when Washington hosts Florida at Verizon Center. The first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a limited-edition Alex Ovechkin bobblehead presented by Verizon. Caps alumni will be on hand signing autographs prior to the game, while owner Ted Leonsis will be welcoming fans at the arena’s main entrance. Face painting, break dancers, spirit stations, and other forms of entertainment will be located in and around the arena prior to puck drop. The evening will conclude with the team’s “Jerseys Off Our Backs” giveaway, presenting the game-worn jerseys that were not won in the online giveaway to randomly selected fans at the conclusion of the game. Other notable prizes include a Ford Edge, Sharp televisions, game-used equipment, airline tickets and gift certificates that will be distributed to lucky fans in attendance.
