ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals will host their second annual Dollar Dog Night, presented by Esskay, on Thursday, Dec. 4, when the team takes on the New York Islanders at Verizon Center. Hot dogs will be on sale for $1 at concession stands throughout the arena.
The evening is also a Student Rush Night presented by Chipotle, featuring special ticket pricing for students who purchase tickets at the Verizon Center box office (with a valid student ID) beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The best available upper level seats are priced at $15, while lower level preferred seats are available for $35 during the Student Rush. Each Student Rush ticket comes with a coupon for a free Chipotle burrito.
The Capitals will host two hot dog eating contests this year. The second annual Caps Collegiate Hot Dog Eating Contest, which will take place on the concourse around 6:15 p.m., features contestants representing several local colleges and universities. Students should listen to ESPN 980 during the week of Dec. 1 for their chance to win tickets to the game and compete in the contest. The “Black Widow” Sonya Thomas, one of the top-ranked competitive eaters in the world, will be on hand to train the contestants taking part in the challenge. She will also judge the competition and meet with fans on the concourse prior to the game. The Sports Reporters will be broadcasting from the concourse and will do a live broadcast of the collegiate contest.
The second hot dog eating contest will take place at the top of section 104-105 and include local celebrity contestants Jorge Alfaro (from ESPN 980 and ESPN Deportes), Kyle Benham (from DC101’s Elliot in the Morning show), Matt “Drab” Cahill (from WJFK’s Big O and Dukes Show), Brian Egan (WMZQ on-air personality), John Keeley (from On Frozen Blog) and the “Black Widow.” Contestants are subject to change.
Capitals’ mascot Slapshot and members of the team’s promotional staff will be on campus at several local colleges and universities the week of Dec. 1 to promote Dollar Dog Night and distribute free hot dogs and flyers to students.
Note: Hot dogs will be available for $1 while supplies last with a limit of four dogs per transaction.
