WASHINGTON, D.C. - November 6, 2006 – The Washington Capitals will partner with DHL and Classic Rock 94.7 The Arrow to host the Capitals’ sixth annual coat drive at Verizon Center Friday, Nov. 17, prior to and during their matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring a warm, clean winter coat to the game; all contributions will be delivered by DHL to Coalition for the Homeless and SERVE, Inc.
Coat collection bins will be located at all entrances to Verizon Center. Coats will be collected from the time doors open at 6 p.m. until the 10-minute mark of the first period. Each fan who brings a clean winter coat will receive a Washington Capitals Dainius Zubrus poster.
“I am proud to be a part of this program,” said Zubrus, Capitals alternate captain and coat drive spokesman. “Helping the homeless is just one way that we can give back to the community, especially in the cold winter months.”
The Capitals have helped provide coats for more than 13,000 people during the five years of hosting this drive. Charities that have received coat donations include Center City Community Corporation, Coalition for the Homeless, Mary’s House, My Sister’s Place, Baptist Home for Children and Families, Crossway Community, Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Charities/St. Vincent de Paul Society, Georgia Avenue Family Support Collaborative, Easter Seals Children’s Center, S.O.M.E. and Serve, Inc.

Since its inception in 1981, the Coalition has worked through litigation, public education and direct services to ensure that these goals are realized.
SERVE, Inc. is a nonprofit community organization that is dedicated to strengthening the Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park community through comprehensive programs and partnerships that provide basic needs and promote economic independence for homeless and underprivileged individuals and families.
