Capitals to Honor Heroes for Veterans Day

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals will honor the men and women who serve or have served in the U.S. military with a pair of initiatives at their game on Monday, Nov. 10, at Verizon Center, the day before Veterans Day. All current and former members of the military with a military ID will be eligible to purchase special “Military Rush” tickets on the day of the game, while the 2008-09 Courage Caps will be available for fans to purchase, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Fisher House Foundation.

Patterned after the Capitals’ popular Student Rush program, Military Rush will allow fans with a U.S. military ID to purchase upper level seats for $15 and lower level seats for $35. Each Military Rush ticket comes with a coupon for a free Chipotle burrito. Military Rush tickets are limited to one per military ID and will go on sale at 10 a.m. only at the Verizon Center box office; check the day of the game for updated availability.

Courage Caps return this year after Capitals fans showed enthusiastic support for the program in 2007-08. This year three styles of Courage Caps will be available – two baseball hats and one knit hat – and they will benefit the Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury.

Courage Caps start at $20 and will be sold at the Fan Gear store at the F Street entrance, at kiosks throughout the concourse and at the community relations table behind section 104. Caps fans are encouraged to get their Courage Caps quickly; last season Courage Caps sold out in less than two weeks.

Courage Caps will be available online Nov. 9 at As of Nov. 10, they will be available at the pro shop at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex and several of the Capitals’ other rink partners: Ashburn Ice House, Gardens Ice House, Prince William Ice Center, Rockville Ice Arena, Skate Frederick and SkateQuest Reston.
