ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals teamed up with Comcast SportsNet, Elliot in the Morning and the Marine Corps Reserve to host their ninth annual Toys for Tots campaign Friday, Dec. 12 at Verizon Center. The event was a success thanks in large part to Caps fans, who generously donated money and toys for the drive.
Fans filed a box truck with new, unwrapped toys, which will be given out to the D.C. area underserved children. Every fan who donated a toy received an Alex Ovechkin
“We collected hundreds of toys and money for the D.C. area kids at this year’s Toys for Tots toy drive,” said Ovechkin, the toy drive spokesman. “I’m really proud of our fans for stepping up and helping out.”
Players’ and coaches’ families also got involved in the annual holiday toy drive, collecting toys outside Verizon Center before the game. Capitals forward Eric Fehr and Jeff Schultz
met fans, took pictures and helped collect toys with the Marines.
