Fans Encouraged to Bring Toys to Dec. 9 Game vs. Detroit
Washington, D.C. – December 8, 2005 – The Washington Capitals will again join forces with Comcast SportsNet, DC101 and the Marine Corps Reserve for their annual Toys for Tots campaign. The official kickoff for the campaign is Dec. 9, when the Capitals play host to the Detroit Red Wings. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the F Street entrance of MCI Center before the game.
“It feels great to be involved in such a wonderful program,” Capitals goaltender and Toys for Tots spokesman Olie Kolzig said. “It is important to give back to those less fortunate during the holidays. I’m sure that this year’s event will be the most successful toy drive to date thanks to the help of our loyal fans.”
This is the sixth year the Capitals have hosted the Toys for Tots toy drive with the Marine Corps Reserve. The Capitals, Comcast SportsNet, DC101 and Marines are challenging fans to fill up two HMMV’s, one seven-ton tactical vehicle, one government passenger van and one Ford Excursion with toys, all of which will be displayed on F Street. For each toy a fan brings, he or she will receive a free poster featuring Kolzig. The Marines will also allow children to go inside the HMMV’s and the tactical vehicles.
