The Washington Capitals have signed center Philippe Maillet to a two-year, two-way contract, with an average annual value of $700,000, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Maillet, 26, recorded 54 points (16g, 38a) in 68 games with the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League (AHL), setting career highs in assists and points. Additionally, the 5'9", 167-pound forward led Ontario in assists and ranked second in points.

In 140 career games with Ontario, the Lachenaie, Que., native recorded 94 points (36g, 58a).

Maillet was an undrafted free agent out of the University of New Brunswick (U Sports) when he signed with Ontario on March 27, 2015. In 101 games at the University of New Brunswick, Maillet recorded 166 points (60g, 106a). During his senior season in 2016-17, Maillet received the Senator Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy as the Player of the Year in U Sports. Additionally, Maillet won the David Johnston University Cup in his junior and senior seasons.
