Capitals Sign Defenseman Dean Arsene

Washington, D.C. – July 26, 2006 – The Washington Capitals have signed free agent defenseman Dean Arsene, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.


Arsene, 26, played a career high 68 games for the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, posting two goals and five assists for seven points. He appeared in all 21 playoff games and registered one assist during the Bears’ run to the 2006 Calder Cup championship.

The 6’2”, 200-pound native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, has spent the past two and a half seasons in Hershey. He made his Bears debut on January 21, 2004, after being recalled from Reading of ECHL. Following the 2004-05 season he was awarded the Milton W. Gardland Memorial Trophy as Hershey’s best defenseman.
