ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Sean Collins from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Collins, 27, has played in 73 games for Hershey this season, registering 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) and 78 penalty minutes. Last season, Collins recorded one goal and 17 assists and ranked eighth on the team with a +26 rating. He also appeared in all 15 playoff games as the Bears won the Calder Cup. The 6’1”, 206-pound native of Troy, Michigan, has collected 46 points (six goals, 40 assists) and 184 penalty minutes in 190 career games for the Bears.
Collins appeared in 15 NHL games, all during the 2008-09 season with the Capitals, recording two points (one goal, one assist) and 12 penalty minutes. The former Ohio State Buckeye was signed as a free agent by the Capitals on March 17, 2007.
Collins, who wears number 62, will be available for tonight’s game versus the Buffalo Sabres at Verizon Center.
