WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Jeff Schultz from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Schultz, 20, is in his first professional season and has played six games with the Capitals. The 6’6”, 224-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, has played 36 games for the Bears, recording two goals, eight points, a +14 rating and 33 penalty minutes. Schultz played in two games with the Capitals last week (Jan. 18 at Carolina and Jan. 20 vs. Florida) before being assigned to Hershey, where he scored one goal and had one assist during a 4-1 win against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Jan. 21.
Schultz will rejoin the Capitals today and will be available for Friday’s game at the Carolina Hurricanes (7 p.m., NewsChannel 8; WTNT-AM 570) and will wear No. 55.
