WASHINGTON, D.C. – January 20, 2007 – The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Jamie Hunt from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and assigned center Jakub Klepis to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Hunt, 22, has two goals and 10 assists (12 points) in 33 games as an AHL rookie in Hershey, ranking second among Bears’ defensemen in scoring. He has a +5 rating and 33 penalty minutes, with one power-play goal. A 6’2”, 200-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, he made his NHL debut on Dec. 28 at New Jersey before returning to Hershey. Last season he tied for the NCAA lead in points per game by a defenseman (1.36) with Matt Carle, now with the San Jose Sharks.
Hunt is available for today’s game against the Florida Panthers (1 p.m., Comcast SportsNet, SportsTalk 980) and would wear No. 29.
Klepis has played 35 games for the Capitals this season, recording two goals and six assists (eight points).
