Capitals Recall David Steckel from Hershey, Assign Jeff Schultz

WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 4, 2007 – The Washington Capitals have recalled center David Steckel from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and assigned defenseman Jeff Schultz to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Steckel, 25, rejoins the Capitals after being assigned to Hershey on March 7. He has played 68 games with the Bears this season and sits third on the team in scoring with 57 points (28 goals, 29 assists). The 2001 first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings (30th overall) was signed by Washington as a free agent on Aug. 25, 2005. He has seen action in three games for the Capitals this year.
Schultz, 21, returns to Hershey having played in 38 games for the Capitals this year. The 6’6’’, 224-pound native of Calgary is tied for second on the team with a +5 rating and has tallied three assists on the season.
