Capitals Recall Carey and Carrick from Hershey; Re-assign Ness and Sill

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled forward Paul Carey and defenseman Connor Carrick from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned forward Zach Sill and defenseman Aaron Ness to Hershey, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Carey, 27, has played in two games with the Capitals this season and has earned one assist in 24 career NHL games with Washington and Colorado. The 6’1”, 200-pound forward made his NHL debut on March 12, 2014, vs. Chicago and earned his first NHL point with an assist on Feb. 16, 2015 against Arizona. He was selected by Colorado in the fifth round, 135th overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft and signed with Washington as a free agent on July 8, 2015. Carey registered 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) and 18 penalty minutes in 43 games with Hershey this season. The Boston native has recorded 127 points (55 goals, 72 assists) and 117 penalty minutes in 231 career AHL games with Lake Erie, Providence and Hershey.

Carrick, 21, has appeared in three games with the Capitals this season and has registered six points (one goal, five assists) and 23 penalty minutes in 37 career NHL games with Washington. Carrick made his NHL debut on Oct. 1, 2013 at Chicago and scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 3, 2013 against Calgary. The 5’11”, 194-pound defenseman registered 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) and 36 penalty minutes in 39 games with Hershey (AHL) this season. The Orland, Park, Ill., native represented Hershey at the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic in Syracuse, N.Y. In 125 career AHL games with Hershey, Carrick has tallied 68 points (17 goals, 51 assists) and 183 penalty minutes. Carrick was drafted by the Capitals in the fifth round, 137th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Ness, 25, tallied two assists in eight games with the Capitals this season. He made his Capitals debut on Jan. 2 at Columbus and earned his first Capitals point with an assist on Jan. 5 at Boston. Ness was drafted by the Islanders in the second round, 40th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft and signed with Washington as a free agent on July 1, 2015. He has registered five points (one goal, four assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 37 career NHL games with the NY Islanders and Washington. Ness registered 15 points (two goals, 13 assists) and 16 penalty minutes in 32 games with the Bears this season. The 5’10”, 183-pound defenseman has earned 138 points (25 goals, 113 assists) and 195 penalty minutes in 312 career AHL games with Hershey and Bridgeport.

Sill, 27, scored one goal in nine games with the Capitals this season. He made his Capitals debut on Dec. 20 against Buffalo and scored his first Capitals goal on Jan. 10 against Ottawa. Sill was signed by Washington as a free agent on July 16, 2015. He has registered five points (two goals, three assists) and 98 penalty minutes in 90 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, Toronto and Washington. Sill has earned nine points (two goals, seven assists) and 34 penalty minutes in 35 games with Hershey (AHL) this season. He has tallied 82 points (35 goals, 47 assists) and 349 penalty minutes in 312 AHL games with Hershey and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
